International Maritime Organization (IMO)
The resolution on the establishment of IMO- London- was adopted and is considered one of the organizations affiliated to the United Nations and aiming to develop a mechanism for issues related to maritime safety, safety of lives at sea, navigation worthiness, prevention of pollution resulting from vessels pollutions preventions and maritime security. Egypt has joined the organization since 1959. The IMO members reach 165 members and 3 associate members.
The International Labor Organization ILO:
The International Labor Organization was established in 1919 in Geneva as one of the UN organizations. The total number of its members is 175 countries represented in the ILO meetings with 3 parties (government - Businessmen - Workers).
In view of the diversity of international agreements adopted in the field of maritime labor and the continuous review and amendment, the ILO council approved, in 2001, on the establishment of an international working group composed of 12 countries representing the geographic area of the member countries. The working group considers the collection of all the agreements in a unified Instrument. Egypt occupies the main seat for the North African region. The draft unified agreement will be submitted to the Preliminary Maritime Conference held in September 2004 in the preparation of the adoption of the agreement in the Maritime Conference that will be held in 2005.
